Celebrity Plastic Surgeon Opens Walk-In Botox Medical Boutique in Georgetown

Celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Ayman Hakki has returned to Georgetown, with a new concept in beauty, the walk-in Botox clinic. Dr. Hakki’s medical boutique, Luxxery Express, opened this month on Wisconsin Avenue.

“You don’t need an appointment and you won’t waste hours in a waiting room,” says Dr. Hakki, who is Board Certified in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

“Patients can see me for their Botox or injectables and then walk to Social Safeway or go shopping.”

The first walk-in patient to the practice, Carmen Phelps, 35, came in last week after seeing the NBC4 feature on Luxxery Express.  “When I saw it on TV, I thought, I like the idea of the express service and a spa-like setting,” said the busy House staffer. “But, more importantly, I wanted to go to a real plastic surgeon.”

Phelps knew she wanted a filler, which is now requested as much Botox in the practice. “I exercise a lot, so I don’t have a lot of fat. But my face was looking sunken, drawn. I looked tired,” she says.

“Dr. Hakki looked at my face — from a point of physiology and biology –and then decided exactly where to put the Radiesse injections, based on my bone structure. He knew by giving fullness, here, at the top of my cheekbones, it would decrease the shadows under my eyes. It’s really artistry,” says Phelps.

Oprah, Other Powerful Dems NOT Invited to Chelsea Clinton’s Wedding

Chelsea Clinton’s wedding—now dubbed “the wedding of the century”—is such an exclusive event that HUMAN EVENTS had not been able to find anyone who is actually attending the July 31 wedding. So many of Bill and Hillary Clinton’s friends and supporters are not invited to the wedding that feelings are getting hurt and egos bruised.

Media reports of the 500 guests at Chelsea’s wedding to Marc Mezvinsky in Rhinebeck, NY include:

Huffington Post: “Oprah Winfrey, who campaigned against Hillary in the 2008 election, will be there.”

New York Daily News: “President Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Barbra Streisand and ex-British Prime Minister John Major are among the 500 people asked to watch Chelsea marry Marc Mezvinsky.”

AOL News: “President Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey and Barbra Streisand are on the A list of guests to watch Chelsea Clinton say “I do.”

But, these reports are all wrong because they are based on a story in a local, weekly newspaper, The Hudson Valley News. HUMAN EVENTS called the published guest list and discovered that none of these luminaries is attending, and, many were not even invited to the wedding.

President Obama: Not attending, but was he even invited?

Despite the detailed report in the Hudson Valley News— “The President is expected to land at Stewart Airport in Newburgh, New York and take Marine One across the Hudson to Astor Court in Rhinebeck”—the President is not attending the wedding.
When asked at the White House briefing Wednesday if the President was attending Chelsea’s wedding, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs responded: “Not that I’m aware of.”

HUMAN EVENTS has called the White House press office twice to ask if the President was invited to the wedding, and both times given the response, “I don’t know.” As of press time, the White House has not responded about the invitation.

Oprah Winfrey: Not invited!

The media relations department of Harpo is a tight ship, more professionally run than the White House press office. After clearing four different screeners, a friendly publicist said that Oprah is not attending the wedding.

Was she invited? “Ms. Winfrey has not been invited to the wedding,” said a Harpo spokesperson. Ouch.

Ted Turner: Not attending but not sure if invited.

An assistant to Turner Enterprises Chief Communications Officer Phillip Evans said that Turner is “not attending” the wedding. When asked if he was invited, she said that they are “not aware” because Turner’s mail goes to another office. She agreed to look further into the mail situation and call me back if Turner received a wedding invitation. We’re still waiting….

Doris Kearns Goodwin: Not invited. Looking for the invite in her mail.

Goodwin’s publicist Beth Laski apparently thinks that “HUMAN EVENTS” is a part of the State Department. When asked whether Goodwin was attending the wedding, Laski responded in one breath:

“Oh, great, I didn’t know if you got my message yesterday. I saw in the newspapers that Doris was invited to the wedding so I called her, and she said ‘I don’t think I’ve been invited.’ But she said she had a pile of mail she hadn’t gone through, so the invite could be in there. So yesterday afternoon I called President Clinton’s office and Secretary of State Clinton’s offices and left the message about whether Doris had been invited. So you got my message?”

“There must be some confusion, I’m a reporter,” I said.

After a pause, Laski asked “Who did you say you write for?”

“HUMAN EVENTS. It’s a newspaper,” I responded.

“Oh. I don’t know if Mrs. Goodwin is attending Chelsea’s wedding,” Laski said robotically before hanging up.

Howard Ickes: Unclear if invited, if so, he hasn’t RSVP’d.

Also confusing HUMAN EVENTS with another entity, Ickes lobbying office asked three times “who are you calling from again?” She said she would have to check and call me back to answer the question “Is Mr. Ickes attending Chelsea Clinton’s wedding?” When I gave her my phone number, she asked “Is that the RSVP line?” Apparently mistaking HUMAN EVENTS for an event planning company, I clarified that I’m asking the question a reporter. She hung up the phone. Ickes was Clinton’s Deputy Chief of Staff at the White House.

Terry McAuliffe: Likely attending.

McAuliffe, Bill Clinton’s BFF, is probably attending, but will not confirm it. When called, his rep Levar Stoney, said “I think he’s attending but I haven’t talked to him about it.” Asked if he could confirm that McAuliffe was invited and attending, Stoney offered to call and ask him directly. He has not responded as of press time.

Barbra Steisand: Won’t respond

Her publicist Dick Guttman said “I don’t know if she’s going.”  Asked if the widespread reports that she is attending are correct, he responded, “if I did know, I’d tell everyone, not just you.”

Steven Spielberg: unclear

Spielberg is on vacation now, so his spokesperson, Marvin Levy would only say that “we don’t comment on his personal life.”

Robert Kennedy Jr. Attempts To Profit from BP Oil Spill; Files for Second Divorce

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., an environmental lawyer who blames President Bush for the BP oil spill, filed for divorce from his second wife, Mary Richardson Kennedy, the mother of his four youngest children. Days after the divorce filing, Mary was arrested and charged with DWI. She will be in court on Thursday July 22 on the charges. Also, leading up to the split, police responded to several domestic incidents at the Kennedys’ home in tony Bedford, New York.

Kennedy, a longtime environmental activist, has been vocal in blaming the BP oil spill on “Big Oil” (capitalization, his) and the Bush administration. Five days before police were called to his house for a domestic incident, Kennedy wrote a column inHuffington Post entitled “Sex, Lies and Oil Spills.” Kennedy praised the “impressive response” of the Obama administration to BP’s spill.  He wrote that the “real culprit in this villainy is a negligent industry, the festering ethics of the Bush Administration and poor oversight by an agency corrupted by eight years of grotesque subservience to Big Oil.”

Kennedy claims to be speaking from a position of activist, however he is apparently trying to profit from the businesses affected be the oil spill. While filing for divorce and family drama, his personal website appears to have an advertisement for his law firm Kennedy & Madonna. “I have assembled a team of the top law firms in the country whose combined experience, knowledge and proven success are available to assist you if you have been impacted by the BP oil spill,” Kennedy posted on the site.

When called for comment, Kennedy’s law firm partner Kevin Madonna tells HUMAN EVENTS that “we are not charging anybody for work” related to the oil spill and “at this point, everything is pro bono”.

As far as Kennedy’s appearance of profiting by posting what seems to be an advertisement on his environmental activist website, Madonna told HUMAN EVETNS: “I know what you are trying to get at and it’s really disingenuous.” Asked if the Kennedy & Madonna law firm was signing clients on a contingency basis, to be paid if the victims were awarded restitution funds, Madonna responded “no one is taking money from the victims.”  He conceded, however, that “of course people have to be paid for their work.”

Meanwhile on May 10, the Bedford Police went to the Kennedy home in response to a 911 call from Mary Kennedy. At the scene, Mary told the officers that her husband Robert was “verbally abusive to herself and her children.” According to the police report, however, officers describe Mary as “visibly intoxicated” and having “great difficulty collecting her thoughts and articulating her reasons for calling.” The Bedford Police determined that no one in the household was in danger. No charges were filed.

The Kennedy family home where the police have responded at least twice this year to 911 calls is also the subject of a book and website called “The Kennedy Green House.”  Mary Richardson Kennedy‘s book on “greening up” her home was published in April and described as “the story of the family’s journey to health, wellness, and a better lifestyle.”

Kennedy Green House is the family’s residence in Bedford. It remains unclear who will keep the house in the pending divorce. Mary’s attorney Kerry Lawrence told HUMAN EVENTS that she is still living in the house, but “would not comment on their matrimonial issues.”

Two days after the domestic incident at Kennedy’s house, Robert filed for divorce. The couple has been married for 16 years. Mary Richardson was six months pregnant when she married Robert Kennedy in a civil ceremony on a boat in the Hudson River. A month earlier, Robert went to the Dominican Republic to get a quickie divorce from Emily Black, the mother of his two oldest children.

The day after Robert filed for divorce, Bedford police responded to a 911 hang-up call from the Kennedy residence. At the house, the police witnessed a “verbal argument between the husband and wife.  Robert told police that Mary was intoxicated and “acting irrational.”  The police checked on the safety of the household residents, including the couple’s four children, and allowed Robert to leave the home. Afterwards, the police determined the incident warranted “documentation” and filed a “State Domestic Incident Report.”

Two days later on May 15, Mary Kennedy was arrested for DWI outsider her children’s school. When police observed Kennedy drive her Volvo station wagon over a curb at 9pm outside the St. Patrick’s School, they pulled her over. The police administered field sobriety tests, which resulted in sufficient grounds for charging her with DWI.

Mary Richardson Kennedy was driven to the police department and processed, which included submitting to a mug shot (see photo). Kennedy agreed to submit to a breathalyzer test, using the “data master” equipment. Her blood-alcohol level was 0.11 percent, according to police records, and she was charged with misdemeanor DWI. (Felony DWI in New York State is based on priors and other factors).  Kennedy was driven home by someone who is “not a family member” (i.e. not her husband, Robert).

NPR and TIME Protect Their Liberal Reporters

NPR and Time Magazine are defending and protecting their liberal reporters’ public disdain and hatred for conservative journalists. NPR affiliate KCRW’s Sarah Spitz andTime’s Michael Scherer emailed their personal hostility for conservative views to their cohorts in the liberal cabal called “Journolist.”

Scherer is the White House correspondent for Time Magazine. Spitz is the publicity director for public radio station KCRW and producer of radio shows “Left, Right & Center” and “Politics of Culture.”

Spitz openly expresses her vile dislike for conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh. “I never knew I had this much hate in me,” she wrote in the emails obtained by The Daily Caller. “But he deserves it.”

Her hate language rises to the level of openly wishing for Limbaugh’s death. She wrote that if Limbaugh were having a heart attack, she would “laugh loudly like a maniac and watch his eyes bug out.”

When called for comment, NPR spokesperson Anna Christopher vehemently denied Spitz is associated with NPR. “She’s not an NPR employee,” Christopher told HUMAN EVENTS. “We at NPR do not have any affiliation with her.”

NPR seems to be splitting hairs. The network lists KCRW as an affiliated station in the Los Angeles area.

Also, Christopher denies that Spitz’s political show “Left, Right & Center”—hosted by Arianna Huffington, Tony Blankley, Matt Miller and Robert Scheer—is part of National Public Radio. “It’s a KCRW production and airs on its station,” she said.

Blankley, the conservative on “Left, Right & Center” defends Spitz, saying her comments are out of character. “I’ve known her for years,” Blankley tells HUMAN EVENTS, “and she’s always been fair.” He says Spitz’s personal political views do not affect the production of the show. “The topics each week reflect my conservative views as well as the liberals views,”  Blankley said in an interview. Also, he point out that KCRW has always produced and financed the show, so it is not an NPR product.

Asked if the show was syndicated on the NPR network, Christopher denied any knowledge, saying, “I don’t know where it’s broadcast.” In fact, the show is actually syndicated on 39 stations across the country, according to the station list.

Neither Spitz nor her boss, KCRW General Manager Jennifer Ferro returned repeated calls for comment. However, NPR posted a pseudo-news story which was actually a public relations gambit to defend the network from Spitz’s comments. TheNPR story cites a statement issued by Spitz—which was only issued to NPR—in which she wrote of making “poorly considered remarks about Rush Limbaugh.”

In the statement, Spitz attempts to defend herself, claiming that the Journolist cabal is a “private-email discussion group,” and that she sent the death wish from her “personal-email account.” Conceding an ethical lapse on her part, she wrote: “I regret these comments greatly; they do not reflect the values by which I conduct my life.”

Also in NPR’s pseudo-news story, Ferro seeming towed the line from the network’s publicity department. “Sarah is a longtime employee of KCRW. Please note that she is not affiliated or employed by NPR, nor does she work as a journalist, as has been incorrectly reported in the media,” wrote Ferro.

Tellingly, Ferro does not discipline Spitz for her actions.  “She spoke in the heat of the moment without consideration to the impact her words would have,” Ferro writes in defense of Spitz’s fantasy of laughing as Rush Limbaugh dies of a heart attack.

Meanwhile, another member of the Journolist cabal, Time’s Michael Scherer denies the legitimacy of his fellow White House correspondents. Scherer writes that Fox News is not a “news organizations,” but rather a “less respectable hybrid of news and political advocacy.”

Scherer writes, “The Fox News gambit is based on courting such criticism. [Fox’s President Roger] Ailes understands that his job is to build a tribal identity, not a news organization. You can’t hurt Fox by saying it gets it wrong, if Ailes just uses the criticism to deepen the tribal identity.”

Agreeing with Scherer on Journolist, UCLA Law Professor Jonathan Zasloff writes in capital letters to express his hostility for the network:  “Fox is NOT A NEWS ORGANIZATION, Michael: it is a wing of the Republican Party and the Conservative Movement.” Zasloff—who apparently skipped his Yale Law School class on constitutional law—asked “if there is any reason why the FCC couldn’t simply pull [Fox News’] broadcasting permit once it expires?”

A Time spokesperson released a written statement in response to the emails: “Michael Scherer fully disputes The Daily Caller’s account, which selectively quotes his emails and takes his comments about the changing news landscape entirely out of context. In his emails, he vocally opposes any suggestions to restrict Fox News.”

Scherer did not return repeated calls and emails requesting information on the “context” of his emails. Time’s Washington Bureau Chief Michael Duffy and Managing Editor Richard Stengel’s both refused to comment on Scherer.

Asked if Stengel would keep Scherer employed at Time, Associate Director of Public Relations Caitlin O’Neill told HUMAN EVENTS, “I imagine so, but I’m not sure.”

O’Neill said she would ask whether or not Scherer would face any disciplinary action for his emails and call back. Instead, she emailed: “Our statement is our response, and we’ll not be responding to any further questions.”

The exposure of the Journolist cabal’s emails demonstrates that the media-elite’s liberal agenda is well-coordinated and openly accepted at the executive levels of the mainstream media.

David Vitter Defends Knife-Wielding Staffer, Faces New GOP Primary

Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) is not only facing a GOP primary challenger this week, he’s also defending keeping a long-time aide on staff after pleading guilty to domestic violence.

Former Louisiana Supreme Court Justice Chet Traylor announced Friday that he is running against Vitter for the Republican nomination. Traylor made the last-minute decision to run at the behest of fellow Republicans who want an alternative to the disgraced Vitter. “So many people want a different choice than what we’ve got right now,” Traylor said.

When Vitter’s cell phone number showed up in her black book of the so-called “D.C. Madam” in 2007, he admitted to a “very serious sin in my past.” The federal authorities busted the prostitution ring run by Deborah Jeane Palfrey, who committed suicide before trial.

Vitter is also under fire by women’s groups for keeping Brent Furer on his government-paid, congressional staff after attacking his girlfriend in January 2008 with a knife, causing her to get eight stitches in her chin. Five days after Furer attacked her, Vitter suspended him without pay from his senate job. The unpaid suspension lasted all of five days.

Furer pled guilty to three misdemeanor charges in D.C. Superior Court in April 2008. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail (suspended), two years probation, 40 hours of community service, and alcohol/drug treatment. After pleading guilty, Furer remained on Vitter’s senate staff—reportedly handling women’s issues, of all things—until two weeks ago, when the conviction was made public.

Furer has worked for Vitter in the Senate since 2005, earning from $25,333 -$54,791 in 2009. He has also been arrested for cocaine, road rage and at least three times for DWI.

Vitter has dodged questions on Furer, telling a local TV reporter that “I’ve responded and I really think this is desperate campaign tactics”

So why did Vitter keep Furer on his senate staff after the criminal conviction? Rumors have swirled in Washington that Furer was the conduit between Vitter and the D.C. Madam and other prostitutes.

Furer’s attorney, Thomas J. Kelly, Jr. of Venable denies there is any truth to this reasoning. “I’ve never heard that at all,” Kelly tells HUMAN EVENTS. He says the D.C. Madam’s black book has been fully vetted, and “there’s no suggestion by anybody” that Furer is linked.

Real Housewives Of Washington, D.C.” is “Masterpiece Theater”

A preview of the new Bravo show “Real Housewives of Washington, D.C.” has the housewives debating whether President Obama or President Bush is the “better man.”

Andy Cohen, Bravo’s senior vice president of original programming and development, aired the clip on “Watch What Happens Live” Monday night. Cohen’s live reaction to the D.C. housewives made one think he was watching live C-SPAN coverage of the Senate debating of campaign finance disclosure.

“D.C. housewives are so highbrow with all their fancy political debate, I almost didn’t know what they were talking about,” Cohen said of the “who is a better man?” debate.

None of the housewives who opined on the “better man” issue—real estate agent Stacie Scott Turner, stay-home mother Mary Schmidt Amons and British interior designer Catherine Ommanney—has any political experience.

To put a fine point on his lack of political knowledge, Cohen deemed the D.C. franchise “kinda like the Masterpiece Theater of Housewife shows.”
